Photograph of the Month 5

Friends, quite gradually we have completed the Fifth month of our existence. And its a pleasure to present to you, our fourth "Photograph of the Month", judged by photographer, Mahadeo lal barai  from Kolkata, India. We thank him to have found time for us and have tracked the entire month of work, we are privileged to have his experience and guidance by our side.






The love forgotten, the fallen king... the stained sword . 
Photograph by Anirban Saha. He is a computer science engineer, from Kolkata.. passionate about photography.. Photography is an accidental bliss to him, as he says he started it to help college events' documentation back in 2009. And we should congratulate him for his new DSLR, which he bought just the last week. We expect to see more of such superb shots.

 "Well composed , nice lighting , nice back , arrange a good pictorial photograph , with the help of chess and red rose , red rose is a symbol of love , so here red rose tell the story , war and peace ! so I like this photograph best of the lot in this forum , I think will be up to satisfaction , and not like unjustified .... Mahadeo Lal Barai

Mahadeolal Barai is an household name of all photographers.. or people passionate about it. He is a veteran still life photographer, with accolades from across the globe. To mention few of his achievement, we need to mention the Presidents Award, 1979, National award in 2004 (subject : Life and Water). He has also awarded the Life time achievement award by the federation of Indian Photography. He is also the honoured artist of Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi. These days we get to see Purulia from his eyes, and cannot help fall in love with it all over again. We feel blessed to have him with us, guiding us. We feel honoured that he judged the 5th "Photograph of the Month".

Assignment : Still Life

Still Life had been a theme ago, now we wanted to improvise and improve upon our existing knowledge.

Assignment: You have to shoot objects in your home.

You have to think of a theme, arrange different objects and shoot. It can be anything on the table, it can be the spoon or the diary that you write... Just arrange and shoot.

The Durga Puja Post

Bangalis' "shera utsav" is Durga Puja.. perhaps the most vibrantly celebrated occasion in entire of India.

Wrap up week #16 : Open theme

Well, we all are in our homes enjoying the festivities... and trying different stuff. This week too was open to all categories and genres, and friends were asked to upload their best images. These are 6 of the photographs.

Week 12: Open theme, wrap up.

This week and the next week, we had the theme : Open theme, where all us friends could upload anything which we had not earlier uploaded and we thought were worth to steal the show.

Arka Dhara is a dreamer.... dreaming all his way, he clicks so beautiful conceptual photos thats mersmerising us all. This dreamer is a bit more than just another dreamer we see around us.. He is recruited by the Tata Consultancy Services, like me and is awaiting his Joining letter :) He recently has also opened his photography page... Do "like" his page after having visited it...

Weel #11 : Emotions on street - wrap up.

Last week our theme was to shoot a stranger on the streets, this is a part of what we know as "street photography". It received moderate responses... :) Showing you few of them...

The honoured mention of the week is of Anirban Saha. 

This was shot in a village street of Gochoron, 36 kilometers south to Kolkata. Like this, to like his photography page :

Sayon has a certain kind of a zeal towards work, be it studies or photography. I am fortunate enough to have found a college junior as good as him. Given any work, he studies about the work and very silently does that.. and makes it seem so effortless, and his work amazes me without a break! The next two photographs has been edited by Arka Dhara, the first of which was shot by Anirban Saha, and the latter by Arka Dhara himself.

Arka Dhara is one of the very few guys who admit very candidly, that he is a dreamer.. and thats all he knows about himself... He can be spotted on the streets, on Sundays or any event wearing three quater pants, and a camera in his hands.. making his way towards his subjects :D A superb guy never the less, he is an extreme humble soul.

Another photo has been submitted via email, by a very affectionate teacher - Mr Abhishek Bagchi.

Week 8 : Still Life

Week 8 was dedicated to the theme "Still Life photography". We got 30 photos submited, showcasing just 5 of them ;). The Honoured Mention of the week has not yet been decided.

I am Anirban Saha... and since this space is still not full, I need to write about myself.. I am a programmer, researcher.. taking up music and photography quite seriously now. Learning is my passion, while its exhibition seldom gets restricted to the facebook page :)

Whats a good photograph?

So what makes for you a good photograph?
Framing or just the feel of it?
Almost all objects has been worked upon and photographed. What matters to the viewer is how the photograph is presented. Is it telling a complete story? Is the story compelling enough to move the viewer? How is the object portrayed? These are few points that often torment the amateur photographer..and is a question that will be asked time and again, down the ages. Perceptions might change few years down the line, the feel shall remain the same. The photo should be pleasing to the eye, and the photographer should love the subject he is photographing. The emotions should be properly exhibited, keeping the frame intact. For composition of the frame, members agreed that basic balancing of the frame is required. Most of us mainly stick to one third rule. Robin added,"clicking just once or twice is not enuff...try to click it wid different angles....the angle from wer the ppl hav never seen it before....n der u hav it!!! voila!!!" The follow lines are also important. The viewer should find it easy traversing full of the frame, and our photographs should make it an easy task for him. The follow lines should lead to the object of the frame.
